Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) is a public, open university located in Nashik, Maharashtra, India. It was established in 1989 under the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University Act of 1989.

The Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University was established by the Maharashtra State Legislative of 1989; assented to by the Governor of the State on the 29th of April 1989. About Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University 

YCMOU was established in July 1989. It was created by the Maharashtra State Legislature Act XX of 1989 and was aptly named after the renowned political leader of Maharashtra and the founder of modern Maharashtra Yashwantrao Chavan. The university is a member of organisations such as the Asian Association of Open Universities, the Association of Indian Universities and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

YCMOU is the fifth largest open university in India. It is recognized by UGC and UGC DEB. AICTE, the Council of Technical Education and the Council of Architecture have also approved the university (for architecture courses). Established in 1989, YCMOU provides more than 100 offline and online study courses, as well as 10 regional centres and more than 300 multi-program study centres.

Cooperates with international universities/institutions such as the Commonwealth Secretariat (London), Commonwealth of Learning (Canada), Wawasan Open University (Malaysia), Brock University (Canada), The Chartered Management Institute of London (UK), Athabasca University (Canada) and the International Food Policy Research Institute for the Global Open Food and Agriculture University (USA).

Apart from this, the university has a separate placement cell that takes care of all placement-related activities.
