About Bangalore University

Bangalore University is one of the largest universities in Asia; it was started in 1964. Universities today have taken on the responsibility of expanding access to higher education for larger groups of people through distance learning, correspondence, and external and open university programs. The Directorate of Correspondence Courses and Distance Education at Bangalore University was established in 1968 as the Department of External Courses.

The directorate has a total student strength of about 10,000. It offers educational opportunities to students in various faculties, such as undergraduate, postgraduate, and diploma streams. All the courses offered by the directorate are on par with the regular courses offered by Bangalore University, and degrees and diplomas are also awarded by Bangalore University. It is worth mentioning here that several students belonging to the directorate have obtained degrees with distinction, including gold medals in university convocations.

Directorate students take the exams along with regular students at Bangalore University. The regulations governing the award of classes, honors, and gold medals are the same for both regular and correspondence, external, and open university scheme students.

From January to March of each year, the directorate conducts a contact program for enrolled students. This is to ensure that students get proper guidance in their subject and also to create proper interaction between students and teachers.

Study materials are prepared mainly in English; Kannada study materials are also supplied according to student preferences in some subjects.
