Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) admission for all Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs depends on the eligibility criteria encircled by the university for each course. Sometimes, it organises a CET exam in June which is an accepting exam for admission to BSc, MSc, BBA and BCA programs. MAKAUT conducts JEMAT for admission to MBA and MHA programs and also accepts a few more state/ national-level exams for admission, such as WBJEE, PGET, UGC NET (including JRF)/ CSIR NET for admission to other UG, PG and doctoral-level courses. The admission cycle for maximum programs at MAKAUT commences in June with CET, JEMAT and PGET registrations. The Government of West Bengal set up an expert committee on December 31, 1998, under the Chairmanship of Ashesh Prasad Mitra, an Eminent Scientist to explore the necessity and scope of education. The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology came into operation formally with the assumption of the office of the first Vice-Chancellor on January 15, 2001, as a sequel to the promulgation of an act passed by the West Bengal Legislature. The University started its academic courses, on July 16, 2001, with the help of the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal dated June 15, 2001, through the affiliation of Engineering and Management universities / Colleges and has entered the eighth year of its functioning. The University is included in Sections 2F and 12B of UGC (University Grant Commission) and recipient of the UGC Grant. MAUKAT wants to grow nurturing innovative/novel ideas that would touch all segments of the society, especially the marginalized ones. To realise its mission of taking as a Centre of Excellence the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology has created three Schools of Studies viz. School of Engineering & Technology (SET), School of Biotechnology & Biological Sciences (SBTBS) and School of Management and Sciences (SOMS) comprising presently five departments through the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Department of Industrial Engineering & Management, Department of Biotechnology, Department of Bioinformatics and Department of Management and Sciences.

The Schools formed in this University would function in the same style as the Schools at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. The Directors of the Schools are taking steps to open up new departments in the Schools and the Departments are motivated to encourage inter-disciplinary research and teaching. All the departments enjoy full academic autonomy and offer overall guidance in nurturing our ideas of development and help integrate disciplines to provide new focus. The SET provides a B.Tech. in CSE and IT as well as an M.Tech. in Software Engineering, an M.E. in Computer Science & Engineering, an M.E. in Information Technology, an M.Tech. in Microelectronics and an M.Tech. in Industrial Engineering & Management. The SBTBS offers an M.Tech in Biotechnology, an M.Tech. in Bioinformatics, Integrated PhD. course in Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Bioinformatics and PhD courses in emerging areas. The University also offers an Integrated PhD course in Physical Science and Chemical Science in collaboration with the S. N. Bose Centre for Basic Sciences. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology Facilities

Academic Session: Beginning July each year it is divided into two semesters- Odd semester and Even semester. Winter vacation normally starts from the last week of December up to the mid-week of January and summer vacation starts from the middle of June to July as inter-semester break.

Library: The Library has both e-resources and print resources. It has a total collection of 25965 books among which 10131 are e-books, approximately 6000 e-journals 20 print journals including 4 foreign journals. The University library is now a member of E-Sodh -Sindhu (UGC Infonet) Digital Library consortia. The university is getting e-journals like IEEE, Cambridge University Press, Economic & Political Weekly, ISID, JCCC, Oxford University Press, SpringerLink, Taylor & Francis from the consortia. and the University itself is subscribing to e-journals like IEE, Elsevier, Springer Nature, ACM Digital Library, American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Taylor and Francis, etc.

Hostel: Well-appointed hostels with fully furnished rooms made for international students at the Haringhata main campus. Rooms are equipped with all basic amenities. The hostels are given excellent protection by security agencies and police booths in the university.

Food: Healthy and hygienic food is available at the student's dining hall. All kinds of fruits and vegetables as well as dairy products are available. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and all kinds of snacks are available at very reasonable cost.
